Symphony Nova Scotia Presents Tchaikovsky & Rachmaninoff
Piano Concerto No. 2 established Sergei Rachmaninoff as a renowned concerto composer. Written as a tribute to the neurologist he credited for curing his depression and writer’s block, the concerto is profoundly uplifting and highlights the healing power of music. Serhiy Salov is an award-winning Canadian pianist born in Ukraine, and he joins Symphony Nova Scotia for one of the most popular and often-performed of Rachmaninoff’s piano concertos. Known for his remarkable technique, exacting rigour, and virtuosity – qualities that unwaveringly serve the poetry inherent in the music – he’s received public enthusiasm, critical acclaim, and prominent status on the international music scene as both a soloist and chamber musician. We also perform Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony – a mighty, emotional powerhouse blending soaring melodies, dark turmoil, and deep joy in its explorations of life, loss, and fate.

Aries Spears
Ever since New York native Aries Spears was 14 years old, he has been a force to be reckoned with in the comedy scene throughout America.
His quick wit, charisma and ferociously aggressive style of comedy have earned him critical acclaim, high accolades, and above all, a busy schedule. From being a regular on Fox’s Mad TV, starring in feature films, appearing on a number of national talk shows, and continually touring the country where he continually sells out each and every city, Aries’ talents are widespread as he just passed the 3 million spins played on Pandora and his podcast is one of the "Musts" in the US.
As a principal cast member on Fox’s hit sketch comedy show Mad TV, Aries brought a fresh, hip style to the already edgy program from the third through the tenth season. The producers made full use of many of Aries’s talents by calling on him frequently to create new hilarious characters and write sketches where he thrived for eight seasons.

Cecilia Concerts Ensemble Francoeur
Take a journey through the elegance and intricacy of the French Baroque era with Québec's Ensemble Francoeur. Featuring a blend of Baroque violin, viol, voice, and lute, their program “Strings, Quarrels, and the King's Court” highlights the exquisite sophistication of François Couperin's "Concerts royaux," a collection that epitomizes the ornate courtly music of Louis XIV's reign. It also includes Marin Marais' "La Sonnerie de Ste-Geneviève du Mont de Paris," crafted with mesmerizing technical prowess and harmonic richness, as well as the emotive and lyrical airs de cour by Michel Lambert, which capture the heartfelt expressiveness and poetic elegance typical of 17th and 18th-century French vocal music. Together, these works showcase the emotional depth and intricate interplay of voices and instruments that define the Baroque period.
