What’s On: Eight Things To Do in and Around Halifax This Week [Nov 25-Dec 1 Edition]

The holiday season is just about in full swing and this week there are a host of offerings to get you primed. Need something to wear to the holiday office party? Check. Looking for the perfect wine for a holiday dinner? Check. Feel like listening to some Christmas classics or enjoying a fantastical ballet performance? Check and check.

And if you’re not into that — we feel you — an adult book fair or live show from a new local band might be more up your alley.

Here’s our roundup of things to do in and around Halifax this week:

A Matter of Belonging -- Gloria Ann Wesley

If you’re looking to learn more about local history, author Gloria Ann Wesley will be giving a talk on the only all-Black battalion-sized formation in Canadian military history — the No. 2 Construction Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force that was created in 1916 during WWI.

Wesley will also be sharing a reading from her latest work of historical fiction, Shovels Not Rifles, that follows a young African Nova Scotian as he fights in the No. Construction Battalion and grapples with racism and discrimination.

A Matter of Belonging will be happening on Tues. November 26 at 6:30 pm as a part of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic Tuesday Night Talk series. Entry is free.
