This is How Rental Prices in Halifax Compare to the Rest of Canada

It’s no secret that Halifax rent has gone up a lot a lot in recent years, but how does it fare in comparison to other Canadian cities?

To answer this question, we looked at the average cost of a one-bedroom apartment in various cities across Canada and then found current rentals going for around that price.

Here’s what we discovered in terms of how rental prices in Halifax compare to the rest of Canada:

1112 Tower Road

HALIFAX

The average cost of a one-bedroom here is $1841, which puts Halifax in 18th place on — and right in the middle of — the rankings of most expensive Canadian cities to rent in.*

Right now, you can find this 524 sq. ft. apartment for $1800 at 1112 Tower Road, with utilities (water and heating) included.

939 Beatty Street

VANCOUVER

Ah, Vancouver. It might give rise to stunning sunset views overlooking the harbour, but it’ll cost you.

Vancouver continues to be Canada’s most expensive city to rent in with the average one-bedroom hovering at the incredible $2700 mark.

For $2675, you can find a 525 sq. ft. apartment in Yaletown at 939 Beatty Street. Utilities not included.

Better get pinching those pennies.

748 Bathurst Street

TORONTO

Never far behind, Toronto comes in third place (behind Vancouver and its nearby associate Burnaby) on the illustrious, most expensive places to rent in Canada list.

Averaging at $2521 for a one-bedroom, the rental market here is nearly equally as hot — and painful — as in Vancouver.

Veering towards the west end of downtown you can find this 561 sq. ft. one-bedroom at 748 Bathurst Street for $2595.

2121 Tupper Street

MONTREAL

A breath of fresh air compared to Vancouver and Toronto, Montreal rental prices are fairly comparable to Halifax. The average one-bedroom comes in around $1741 which, while not ideal, isn’t the worst.

This 626 sq. ft. apartment at 2121 Tupper Street can be found in downtown Montreal and also includes water and heating.

If the language barrier isn’t an issue, Montreal rentals definitely have some promise.

CALGARY

Hovering right behind Montreal in terms of average rental prices, a one-bedroom in Calgary similarly averages out at $1708.

Right off the Bow River you can find this 574 sq. ft. apartment for $1780, a rental price that also includes water and heating.

10750 116 Street NW

EDMONTON

Even further down the list, the average Edmonton one-bedroom sits at the actually pretty reasonable price of $1285.

For $1200, you can currently snag this 652 sq. ft. one-bedroom with water and heating included at 10750 116 Street NW.

If you can brave the cold, it’s not too shabby.

525 Lanark Street

WINNIPEG

It might be a tad remote for some, but Winnipeg’s affordable rental prices are attractive. Hovering just above Edmonton in 29th place, the average price of a one-bedroom in Winnipeg is $1285.

On the west side, you can grab this 640 sq. ft. apartment right now at 525 Lanark Street.

2115 Montague Street

REGINA

Last but not least — especially at these prices — is Regina. Sitting in a pretty 33rd place on the list of most expensive rentals in Canada, the average price of a one-bedroom here is $1213.

For $1245, you can get this 465 sq. ft. apartment with water and heating included at 2115 Montague Street.

If you can brave the Prairies, you might be able to save your bank account.
