Halifax Just swore in its New Municipal Council

Halifax’s new Mayor, Andy Fillmore, has just been sworn in alongside 16 municipal councillors.

Seven of the 16 councillors are new, and for the first time the majority are female. A record nine women were voted in to council last month, including Virginia Hinch who is the first African Nova Scotian woman elected (Iona Stoddard was the first Black woman to serve on regional council but hails from Ontario).

Fillmore reiterated that the council will be looking at traffic congestion, transit, and affordability as it gets started.
