Halifax Has Elected Its Next Mayor

Andy Fillmore has been elected Halifax’s next mayor after voters took to the polls in Saturday’s election.

The former Liberal MP took 42.4% of the vote in a strong victory, defeating candidate Waye Mason who claimed second place with 25% of votes. Pam Lovelace came in third with 16%.

Speaking with CBC after his victory, Fillmore said that this election came down to managing Halifax’s growth.

“It was really all about the way we grow and how we can grow more smartly,” Fillmore said, “to provide the homes and the connectability that residents of the HRM need and deserve, so we can become the world class city that we know we have it in us to become.”

Fillmore and the other councilors will be sworn in early next month.
